Predictions Week 12: Sep 1- Sep 4

Local Crime Story:
It may not have happened in Springfield, but it was because of someone from Springfield. I guess some of the more ambitious ones are branching out. Christopher Williams has been charged for a double murder in Essex, VT. I guess he decided to go on a little shooting spree after he got into a fight with his girlfriend. Nothing like a shooting rampage to calm the nerves after a fight with a loved one.

Weather Report for the Weekend:
Friday looks to be good with highs in the 70's. Saturday and Sunday look like more crappy rain when the remains of Ernesto come into town. High's those days may crack 70. Monday will get good again, high's in the high 70's. Low's at night around 60.

Death Commish's Prediction:
OK, it's been a little slow lately. Thank God for long weekends! If you notice the dates in the title of the post, I've included Monday in this weeks contest. An extra day...an extra opportunity for mahem. Besides, what's more fun...violent crime or Jerry Lewis' Telethon?

1 stabbing, 2 shootings, 1 fatality...and 1 bad solo by Jerry Lewis

Week 11 Results: Aug 25-27

Sorry for the delay folks, it's been a little busy. As for last week...let's just say I'm very disappointed in the lack of effort.

Predictions Week 11: Aug 25-27

Local Crime Story:
This is a good one. Just when you thought it fiction that we're all being kept down by "the man", "the man" actually proves it. A top court officer in Springfield is now on paid leave after being charged with threatening a teenager with a gun in a road rage incident. 51 year-old guy pulls a gun on a 17 year-old because he thought he was being tailgated and that the kid splashed water through the open window by passing on the right. Sure, the kid may have been driving like a moron, but how about honking the horn or even giving the finger before resorting to gunplay? Well, this guy will be back in court soon...just not for work.

Weather Report for the Weekend:
Looks like rain Friday and Sunday, OK on Saturday. Highs in the mid 70's, lows around 50. Remember kids...rain washes away blood and fingerprints!

Death Commish's Prediction:
The last time we had 2 weekends in a row with no action, we came out like gangbusters...no pun intended. I'm looking to see something similar.

1 stabbing, 1 shooting, 1 fatality

Week 10 Results: Aug 18-20

It was a weekend full of traffic fatalities and drug busts, but alas, no violent crime that I could find. Was it because the cops finally got a new contract and were out on the streets diligently patrolling the neighborhoods in order to keep the residents of Springfield safe? I doubt it...everyone was probably watching the Sox get smoked by the Yanks all weekend.

Predictions Week 10: Aug 18-20

Local Crime Story:
Crime is sweeping the region! A murder in Hampden of all places? What the hell is going on? Is there so much crime in the city of Springfield that criminals are feeling the need to branch out? Are we witnessing the urban sprawl of violent crime? A 16 year-old girl was killed in Hampden Tuesday night, apparently bludgoned to death by a 20 year-old dude. Sad, but true.

Weather Report for the Weekend:
Another nice weekend on tap. High's in the 80's, low's in the 60's. Time to get out and have some fun!

Death Commish's Prediction:
Another week of zeros and no winner. That's right, I'm not counting the zeros prediction...that's too much of a cop-out. What fun is there in predicting zeros? Anyway, here's hoping there's something to talk about Monday.

0 stabbings, 2 shootings, 0 fatalities

Monday, August 14, 2006

Week 9 Results: Aug 11-13

What a bummer! Great weather all weekend, not a cloud in the sky, comfortable temperatures, and no reason to stay inside. Was there some sort of peace treaty that I didn't know about? Just when I thought things were picking up too. Unless I wasn't paying attention this weekend...

Final Results:
zero, nil, nada.

Predictions Week 9: Aug 11-13

Local Crime Story:
Lots of stuff happening locally. There was a stabbing in the city a couple of nights ago. Nothing unusual...just another Springfield stabbing. Plus there was the body that was found in the Connecticut River by a boater. Is the mafia back in town, dumping bodies in the river? Imagine what that would do for the stats!

Weather Report for the Weekend:
An excellent weekend! Dry with highs around 80, lows at night into the 50's. A great weekend for some extracurricular activities.

Death Commish's Prediction:
As the summer starts to wind down, there seems like there might be a surge of activity. The retaliation shooting of last weekend may be an indicator of that. Let's bet the trend.

1 stabbing, 2 shootings, 2 fatalities

Monday, August 07, 2006

Week 8 Results: Aug 4-6

Gang shooting at its finest! There was a gang related shooting Friday night on Kenyon Street resulting in a fatality. Apparently it was in retaliation for another shooting...from 2 years ago! Talk about holding a grudge. The alleged shooter was trying to cap 2 guys that were involved in the alleged homicide. Only one got hit. He missed the other completely. If he had better aim, we'd have better numbers, but only one goes on the board.

Final Results:
0 stabbings, 1 shooting, 1 fatality (10th of the year! Congrats Springfield for hitting double digits!)

Predictions Week 8: Aug 4-6

Local Crime Story:
A few days ago was the 23rd National Night Out. Aparently the idea is to get law enforcement to mingle with local residents and business owners in support of safe neighborhoods. How burgers and balloons are going to make neighborhoods safe is beyond me. I guess we should never underestimate the power of the hot dog.

Weather Report for the Weekend:
A break from the heat! A front comes through with some showers on Friday setting up a very nice weekend. Highs in the upper 80's, low's in the 60's.

Death Commish's Prediction:
After some quiet times, there was finally something to report last weekend. With some nice weather coming, maybe we'll see it continue as people decide to leave their homes?

1 stabbing, 1 shooting, 1 fatality.
