Week 7 Results: July 28-30

Thank God! This thing would've been really boring with a third straight week with no action, but there was some action this weekend. There was a shooting on Spring St Sunday night. One guy was hit and was treated for non-life threatening injuries. Why'd he get shot? He heard people fighting in an alley and stuck his nose into someone else's bidness. That'll learn ya!

I also heard that there was a stabbing in the parking lot of the 5-town plaza. I can't find documentation of it anywhere, so I won't include it in the stats. If anyone can find it, let me know and I'll update the stats. So, for now...

Final Results:
0 stabbings, 1 shooting, 0 fatalities...better than nothing!

******UPDATE******
Based on the info I received from an "anonymous comment", the stabbing has now been confirmed.

Final Updated Results:
1 stabbing, 1 shooting, 0 fatalities...I believe we have our first winner! Congrats to L!

Predictions Week 7: July 28-30

Local Crime Story:
There was a shooting last night (Tuesday) on Eastern Ave, but that's not the interesting story. The best story I found was the one where a woman's body was discovered by the Fire Department. Firefighters were battling a small brush fire when they found the bodyon Wayne St. The cause of death is still under investigation. Why do I think that it's something other than "natural causes"?

Weather Report for the Weekend:
Isolated thunderstorms Friday, mostly sunny the rest of the weekend with possible pop up Tstorms in the afternoons. What do you expect for the end of July? Highs close to 90, lows around 70.

Death Commish's Prediction:
2 straight weeks with goose eggs across the board. I'm thinking that we're going to have to ease back into things. The shooting last night was a good start. Perhaps it will lead to something more?

0 stabbings, 2 shootings, 0 fatalities.

Week 6 Results: July 21-23

OK, this is getting out of hand. There was a nice stretch of activity early in the summer, but we seem to be going through a bit of a dry spell. Is it the gas prices that are keeping potential drive-bys inside? Is it the rain that has rusted everyone's weapons? Perhaps everyone finally figured out how to get along? Whatever it is, it can't last forever.

Final Results:
0, 0, 0...yawn.

Predictions Week 6: July 21-23

Local Crime Story:
The four teens who trashed the auditorium of Central High School in February have gotten a trial date set. They allegedly ripped down the stage curtain and pushed the grand piano off of the stage to it's death. Good thing they caught these guys. I heard they were planning to set a trash can on fire! Man, what a slow week.

Weather Report for the Weekend:
Friday and Saturday highs around 80. Sunday only getting to around 70. Low's at night in the 60's. Isolated T-storms all weekend. The heat wave has broken!

Death Commish's Prediction:
Boy was I off last week! I thought the heat would bring out the best in everyone. Well, since everyone took last weekend off, they've gotta be well rested for this weekend.

1 stabbing, 3 shootings, 0 fatalities.

Week 5 Results: July 14-16

Man, what a disappointment. The weather was hot. There was even an Italian festival in Springfield. And yet, no one took it upon themselves to make a little noise. Sure, the children could play freely without dodging bullets, but how much fun can that really be? Maybe the heat wave threw people off a little. If the heat holds up? Well...we can only hope.

Final Results:
0,0,0...and the world wept.

Predictions Week 5: July 14-16

Local Crime Story:
It doesn't fall into any of our catagories, but a man was sent to the hospital after being pistol-whipped during a robbery Saturday afternoon. The robbery occured at Carmen's Gift Shop on Main Street in Springfield. See, there are other uses for a gun besides shooting people.

Weather Report for the Weekend:
HOT! Highs in the 90's. Lows at night in the high 60's to around 70. Gonna be lots of sweaty, cranky people this weekend!

Death Commish's Prediction:
We're coming into the hazy, crazy days of summer. I'm predicting some action this weekend.

1 stabbing, 4 shootings, 1 fatality.

Week 4 Results: July 7-9

Just when I thought it would be another quiet weekend...

I guess someone had it with all of the mouthing off. You know the kind. I'm so pretty. Look at my windows. My lawn is so nice. Well, someone heard enough from that house and decided to shoot it. Stupid house, that'll teach ya!

Final result: 0 stabbings, 1 shooting, 0 fatalities.

Predictions for Week 4: July 7-9

Local Crime Story:
It happened before our death pool started, but I think it's worth bringing up. A man will be in court today after he admitted to stabbing his mother to death. He pleaded not guilty at his arrainment. OK Mr. Oscar Poku, which is it? You admit to doing it, then plead not guilty? How about saving us some time and just stab yourself next time.

Weather Report for the Weekend:
Talk about a great weekend! You can break out all of your weaponry and not have to worry about it getting rusty from the rain! Mostly sunny all weekend, highs in the low 80's, lows at night into the low 60's.

Death Commish's Prediction:
Last weekend there were what appeared to be a couple of gang related drive-bys. I expect the "fireworks" to continue into this weekend.

0 stabbings, 3 shootings, 1 fatality

Week 3 Results: June 30-July 4

I don't know if was the weather, the holiday, or simply out of boredom, but this weekend (mostly Saturday night/Sunday) was full of action. Here's a recap:

  • A guy was stabbed down at Main and Carew Streets Sunday afternoon and walked to the bus station to report it. Suprisingly, he's not cooperating with police.
  • A woman was admitted to the hospital after geing beaten and stabbed with a butcher knife Saturday night. She wanted dinner and dancing...he allegedly wanted to go to a movie.
  • A drive-by shooting in Indian Orchard occured Sunday afternoon. Cops show up, car's empty, victim ran off. I repeat...the victim ran off. Hmmm, think the cops would've liked to find him too?
  • A man was ambushed by 2 masked assailants. He was shot twice, his car was shot 13 times.
  • And the best for last. A 23 year old man was shot and killed by his 17 year old girlfriend. The kicker...she's being charged with possession of a firearm without a license, possesion of ammo without ID, discharging a firearm within 500 ft of a building, and receiving stolen property. I guess the cops forgot to tack on that pesky MURDER charge.
Final Result: 2 stabbings, 3 shootings, 1 fatality

One guess was close, but not close enough.

Predictions for next week will open tonight (as soon as I get the next post up).
